Welcome to The Village Kindergarten!

VKG has been open since September 2000, and has built a reputation for quality childcare in the area. We are situated in a quiet lane in the village of Brant Broughton just off the A17, 8 miles from Newark, 12 m. from Grantham and 14m from Lincoln.

Registered for only 26 places (six babies 0-2 & twenty 2-5 year olds) the nursery is a small friendly unit with an emphasis on the family-style care. The babies have their own "protected" area, with appropriate toys and cots for naps, but join the older children as much as possible for activities and at every mealtime.

There are creative or "messy" areas,a quiet book corner and a role play area that is a baby-room, café or hairdressers depending on the topic that week.

Upstairs the older children are encouraged to join in numeracy and literacy enhancing activities. With a large library of books and basic computer games there is plenty of choice to help each child develop at their own pace. Using the High/Scope philosophy which encourages active learning through play, we use lots of interactive games and activities to keep learning FUN!

Our out-side playground has a variety of equipment and toys, and a patio leading to a large grassed area which we hope to develop into an orchard over the coming years. There is also a separate baby playground so the little ones can get fresh air under parasols etc in the summer without fear if being mown down by the toddlers on their vehicles!! We do all join in together outside where appropriate.

We get outside as much as possible weather permitting and use the field behind the nursery for nature-walks and to watch the spring lambs when they are allowed in.

At VKG we also think its very important to help the children to develop social skills, preparing them for the more formal environment at school. Table-manners and thinking of others, taking turns and sharing, toilet-training and promoting independence when dressing are all part of growing up and sometimes some of the most difficult to learn when you're a toddler! Each child is allowed to grow and develop at his or her own pace, we encourage them while keeping their interest, and let them enjoy their childhood while helping them achieve their milestones in life.

Parents are the first educators of their children and at VKG we never forget this. When you leave your child with us we are very much aware of the trust you are placing in us to look after one of the most important and treasured parts of your life. The team of carers at VKG are a combination of qualified and unqualified (but experienced) staff under the leadership of Jo Wilson the nursery manager, and Gill Thornton & Janet Guest the owner/administrators.

We are always ready to discuss your childs needs and development whether informally or formally if there is a problem. Parents coming to look round for the first time are given all the time they need to ask questions, talk to staff or let their child have a play to get a feel for the place.

Visits are welcome at any time, but if an appointment is made it can help to ensure our undivided attention for as long as you need, otherwise take us as you find us and come & join in the fun!
